The task force that is investigating a series of shootings in northern Colorado gave an update on their investigation Tuesday.
Based on forensic evidence, investigators believe these two shootings are related:
- April 22, 2015 at 11:15 p.m.: Cori Romero was shot in the neck while she was driving on Interstate 25 from Harmony Road in Larimer County.
- May 18, 2015 at 10:15 a.m.: John Jacoby was killed while riding his bike near the intersection of Weld County Road 15 and Weld County Road 72 in Windsor.
Investigators say the shootings were random in nature.
Based on forensic evidence, investigators believe these two shootings are related:
- June 3, 2015 at 10:30 p.m.: A person was shot at while riding a motorcycle near the intersection of Denver Drive and East 18th Street in Loveland. That person was not injured.
- June 3, 2015 at 10:45 p.m.: William Connole was shot and killed while standing at the intersection of East First Street and North St. Louis Avenue in Loveland.
Investigators say the shootings were random in nature.
Based on surveillance video and witness statements, a suspect vehicle has been identified in Connole's death. The vehicle is described as a 1973 to 1987 Chevrolet or GMC pickup truck with a single cab and long bed. The truck has been described as orange-like in color and in poor condition with rust.
Based on forensic evidence, investigators believe these two shootings are related:
- Sept. 13, 2015: The Banner Health Center on Lady Moon Drive reported shots fired at their building. It appears the shootings were random in nature and the suspect fired at windows where people could be seen.
- Sept. 13, 2015: The Cottonwood Plains Elementary School on Turman Drive reported their building was shot at. The building was unoccupied at the time and no one was injured.
Investigators say a suspect vehicle was seen on surveillance video that they believe is linked to the Banner Health shooting. The vehicle is described as a 2002 to 2007 red Mini Cooper with a black hard top. They say the model years were determined based on how the turn signal looks.
According to investigators, all reports of vehicles whose windows were shattered have been investigated and none have been linked to any of the shooting incidents.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the CBI task force's tip line at 970-498-5595 or email taskforce@larimer.org. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information on the April 22, May 18 and June 3 shootings.
The task force has also set up a Facebook page.
Since it began, the task force has received nearly 5,100 tips from the public. Some have been specific to the pickup truck and some on potential persons of interest. Over 1,800 vehicle tips have been followed-up on. The task force has also conducted over 1,000 interviews.
Twelve persons of interest have been "eliminated" during the course of the investigations.
More than 340,385 phone numbers have been processed. The numbers were collected in an attempt to identify some sort of commonality based on dates and locations. Appropriate court orders were used to process the numbers.
The task force does not have an individual or exclusive budget to itself. Every agency participating in the task force provides resources through their existing budgets, which pays for working hours, equipment and other special needs. Funding for the task force has been approved for a six-month extension.
These agencies have investigators assigned to the task force: Larimer County Sheriff's Office, Larimer County District Attorney's Office, Windsor Police Department, FBI, Weld County Sheriff's Office, Loveland Police Department, Fort Collins Police Services and the Greeley Police Department.
The task force has utilized and received support and resources from these agencies: Colorado Bureau of Investigations, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Northern Colorado Regional Laboratories, surrounding law enforcement agencies in Boulder County and other law enforcement agencies in other states that communicate with the task force on a regular basis.
