Man ID'd who was fatally shot in Aurora parking lot on Thursday

Police said one person died and three were injured in the shooting Thursday afternoon in the area of East Colfax Avenue and Ironton Street.

AURORA, Colo. — The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office on Friday identified a man killed in a shooting Thursday in Aurora as Anthony Ray Denton-Gutierrez, 27.

Denton-Gutierrez was killed and three others were injured in the shooting Thursday afternoon.

The Aurora Police Department said officers were called to the shooting at 1472 Ironton St. just after 3 p.m. That's just south of East Colfax Avenue. Once on scene, officers found four victims in the parking lot, all suffering from gunshot wounds.

A man died at the scene. Two other men and a woman had injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said there was a connection between the shooter and the victims. They do not believe it was a random act, but the circumstance leading up to the shooting are still unknown. APD Interim Police Chief Heather Morris said investigators don't believe there is a threat to the public living and working in the area nearby.

"We do not believe at this time that this was a random incident that others need to be concerned about," Morris said. "Obviously its concerning, because it’s a tragic incident that happened in our community, but we do believe there is a connection."

APD says officers and detectives are still investigating the incident, collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and canvassing the area for surveillance.

No suspects have been identified, police said, and no descriptions have been released.

Aurora police are asking anyone with information or surveillance video to call them or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
