A judge has ruled that a Durango man who was convicted of killing a Southern Ute woman when he was 17 will become eligible for release in 20 years.

The Durango Herald reports 38-year-old Raymond Cain was resentenced Monday because of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling earlier this year that prohibits juveniles from being sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

He was convicted of the 1995 killing of 18-year-old Sadie Frost and the shooting of another woman. Prosecutors at the time said Cain shot the women as part of a robbery.

Cain's juvenile case involving life in prison without parole is the first of its kind to be considered in Colorado. There are almost 50 other cases in the state involving juveniles who received a similar sentence.
