A man originally sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a murder he committed as a teen was resentenced Thursday, opening the door for him to be released one day.
Christopher Weedman was 17 when he was convicted of stabbing 13-year-old Tiffany Boelter to death. A teacher found her body on the Dupont Elementary School grounds on Halloween 1996. Tiffany was partially clothed, her throat and wrists were slashed and she suffered multiple other stab wounds.
Now 38, Weedman was resentenced to serve a prison term of 40 years to life, meaning he may be eligible for parole after serving 40 years of his sentence.
Juveniles who were charged as adults and sentenced to life in prison without parole are being resentenced as a result of U.S. Supreme Court decisions holding that a sentence of life without parole is unconstitutional for juveniles.
Adams County District Judge Thomas Ensor said that he was very familiar with the case because he presided over the trial in which Weedman was convicted.
“I feel so sorry for Tiffany and the horror she must have felt on that day,” he said.
