A man who threatened someone to drive him away from a crash on Interstate 70 in Denver last year was sentenced to five years in prison on Friday.

On April 4, 2017, 37-year-old Jonathan Singlevich reportedly crashed his car at I-70 and N. Central Park Boulevard, according to the District Attorney's Office. His was the only vehicle involved.

Someone driving by saw him flee his vehicle and pulled over to make sure he was OK.

The DA says that's when Singlevich threatened and forced the victim to drive him to a nearby motel.

Because Singlevich was on a work-release program from a Denver correctional facility at the time of the accident, he was supposed to return to corrections by 1 a.m. on April 4. He did not return after the accident, the DA says.

Singlevich pleaded guilty to one count of menacing in January and was sentenced to four years in prison Friday. A kidnapping charge related to forcing the person to drive him from the accident was dropped in the plea deal, the DA says.

He was also sentenced Friday to one year in prison for failing to return to his corrections facility after the I-70 wreck. He pleaded guilty to that charge in January.

Singleton will serve the sentences one after the other.
