Man pleads guilty in two Denver area shootings, including one that killed man

Tasin Sanderson, 20, pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder in two shootings in Aurora and Denver a week apart in July 2022, court records show.

DENVER — A man pleaded guilty in two separate shootings in Denver and Aurora, including one that killed a man, that took place a week apart in July 2022, court records show.

Tasin Sanderson, 20, pleaded guilty earlier this month to second-degree murder in the July 19 shooting in Aurora, and attempted first-degree murder with extreme indifference in the July 26 shooting in Denver. Additional charges were dropped by prosecutors.

Kion Perkins, 33, was found shot to death inside a vehicle in a shopping center parking lot at 13280 E. Mississippi Ave. in Aurora on July 19, 2022.

As part of their investigation, detectives located security video from a nearby business that clearly showed the incident and a vehicle involved. That vehicle, a white Subaru Impreza with front-end damage, had been reported stolen. Investigators put out photos to other law enforcement in an attempt to gather leads.

Sanderson, along with Daviyontre Sanderson and Isaiah Rhodes, were all arrested in Denver on North Ceylon Street on July 26, the records show.

A probable cause statement for Sanderson's arrest says officers responded around 9:12 p.m. to a report of a group of men firing shots into an apartment while the victim was inside.

Responding officers saw the suspect vehicle going north on Dunkirk Way and attempted to pull it over, but the driver did not, leading to a pursuit, the probable cause statement says. A handgun was found near where the driver was arrested, and the investigators later discovered the vehicle was reported stolen.

The suspect vehicle became inoperable after going down a dead-end street at High Point Road and Yampa Street and hitting a patrol car. Five people exited the car and two were arrested. The three other suspects, including Sanderson, ran into a nearby field and were eventually taken into custody as well.

Detectives interviewed two of the three suspects and Tasin Sanderson admitted he was involved in the stealing of the Impreza and that he was the one who fatally shot Perkins, an affidavit says.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 19 in the Denver case and May 3 in the Aurora case.

Daviyontre Sanderson pleaded guilty in July 2023 in Arapahoe County District Court to a conspiracy to commit murder charge. All other charges were dismissed. He was sentenced Sept. 29 to 27 years in prison.

Isaiah Rhodes has an arraignment in the Denver case scheduled for March 15 and a status conference in the Aurora case scheduled for April 12.
