ARVADA, Colo — A man pleaded guilty Tuesday to shooting and injuring a food delivery driver in Arvada in 2022.
Vincent Martinez, 38, pleaded guilty to aggravated motor vehicle theft and attempted second-degree assault. Other charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Martinez was sentenced to time served, prosecutors said. However, prosecutors said, the plea revoked Martinez's probation from a separate 2018 case, so he will be sentenced to eight years in prison for that case. He's also facing separate charges in Denver and Adams County.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. Feb. 27, 2022 in the area of 7131 West 84th Way, the Arvada Police Department said at the time. The victim was a food delivery driver making a delivery to an apartment building. He had double-parked his car in front of a car that had been reported stolen, police said.
Martinez was sitting in the stolen car and told the victim to move his car, police said. The two exchanged words, then the victim made his delivery. Martinez was waiting when the victim came out of the building, police said. He pulled a gun and fired a round, hitting the victim on the left side of his face. The victim was treated on the scene and released.
On March 2, 2022, Denver officers shot and injured Martinez after he pointed a gun at them while they were trying to arrest him on a warrant for the Arvada shooting, the Denver Police Department said at the time. That shooting happened near a business in the area of Colorado Boulevard and Yale Avenue. Martinez was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
