27-year-old man killed in shooting involving authorities in Craig

A Craig Police officer and Moffat County Sheriff's Department deputy were placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.

CRAIG, Colo. — A 27-year-old man was killed in a shooting involving authorities in Craig Friday night.

Around 9:40 p.m. Friday, a Craig Police Department officer and Moffat County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to a report of a man with a handgun at the Cedar Mountain Trailer Park located at 925 W. 1st St., according to a release from both departments.

When the officer and deputy arrived on scene they were confronted by a man, later identified as Jesus Fuente Vega. Vega was armed with a gun, which ended with the shooting, the release says.

Vega was taken to the hospital where he died.

The officer and deputy have been placed on paid administrative leave while the 14th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team investigates.

Neither officer nor deputy were injured in the incident.
