DENVER — A man charged in connection to the death of a 9-month-old girl in 2020 was convicted on one count and acquitted on the other he faced, according to court records.
Cain Gallardo, 24, was found guilty on Oct. 16 of one count of child abuse - knowingly or recklessly causing death, and found not guilty on an additional count for the same charge. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 8.
Gianna Rosales died on Aug. 4, 2020, according to Denver Police, one day after she was brought to Denver Health Medical Center. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner said she died from blunt force trauma.
Gallardo, who was the boyfriend of Rosales' mother Jolene Beyer-LaCrue, was arrested in May 2021 in the child's death after an extensive investigation.

Gianna's father, Anthony Rosales, told 9NEWS he reported concerns about a bruise on Gianna to the Wheat Ridge Police Department before she died.
The department confirmed officers responded to a disturbance at the home on July 18, 2020. That was just over two weeks before Gianna died. According to Wheat Ridge Police, officers talked to Rosales and Beyer-LaCrue and were not able to establish probable cause for abuse.
Wheat Ridge Police said both the mom and dad were pointing fingers at each other for the bruise. The department said they made a report to the Colorado Department of Human Services' Office of Children, Youth and Families.
Beyer-LaCrue was also arrested on a charge of child abuse resulting in death. She is scheduled to go to trial in December.
