Man found guilty in Adams County crash that killed 4 teens

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — A man was found guilty last week of careless driving in connection with a 2022 crash that killed four teens north of Commerce City, according to court documents. 

The crash, which involved two SUVs, happened the night of Feb. 25, 2022, at U.S. 85 and East 112th Avenue. Four people were pronounced dead at the scene. Four others were injured. Police said at the time that excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

The suspect, 25-year-old Brandon Howey, was found guilty Friday of four counts of careless driving resulting in death and four counts of careless driving resulting in injury, according to court documents. 

Several of those involved in the crash were Standley Lake High School students, according to Jeffco Public Schools. Another victim went to Adams City High School, according to family.

The victims killed in the crash were Jamie Lynn Withers, 15; Michael D. Burkhard, 15; Johnathan Lee Faize Bledsoe, 16; and Katelyn Renee Sweeney, 16.

Howey will be sentenced Jan. 24.
