WESTMINSTER, Colo — A man was found guilty of first-degree murder this month after fatally stabbing his brother with a sword in 2021, the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office said.
Kenneth Sargent, 62, was found guilty Dec. 7 after a nine-day jury trial. He was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Prosecutors said on the afternoon of June 26, 2021, Sargent and his brother Roy Sargent got into an argument at a townhome on 118th Place in Westminster. As they argued on the front porch, prosecutors said, Kenneth Sargent pulled out a large sword and swung it in Roy Sargent's direction. Kenneth Sargent stabbed his brother once in the heart and the arm, prosecutors said.
A neighbor who saw the fight called 911 and rushed to the victim's aid, prosecutors said. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he died. Kenneth Sargent was taken into custody after an hourslong standoff with police.
