As man clings to life, family pleads for help in finding hit-and-run driver

Jusiah Suarez is unconscious and connected to medical machines since he was hit twice while walking on a Brighton road on Oct. 4.

BRIGHTON, Colo. — While police have a piece of the car belonging to a hit-and-run driver, as the days go on, investigators will become increasingly challenged in tracking down the person who is responsible for putting a 22-year-old man in the hospital.

“We just can’t understand or comprehend that someone can just leave him. How someone can just leave anybody,” Joie Suarez told 9NEWS as she spoke about her brother who remains unconscious in the hospital.

Jusiah Suarez was walking along County Road 27 just south of County Road 2 ½ when around 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 4 the driver of a black car hit him and took off. The driver of another vehicle hit Suarez as he was on the road. The second driver stopped and called 911.

Medical crews took Suarez to the hospital and he was airlifted to another hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Doctors do not know if he will wake up and recover, according to his sister.

“I never heard my mom scream or scream the way that she did when she got the call,” Joie Suarez said.

Brighton Police confirmed to 9NEWS investigators found a piece of the side-view mirror of the suspect’s vehicle at the scene. The piece points to a 2000 Honda Civic, possibly black in color, as the make of the vehicle.

“We are hoping to not only spread the word to find the vehicle, but to raise donations for his medical bills,” Joie Suarez said.

The family has set up this GoFundMe page for Jusiah Suarez.

Brighton Police said you can call their tip line at 303-655-8740 if you have any information about the incident.
