DENVER — A defendant was convicted of murder Friday in the death of a 35-year-old man in a fatal shooting in the Capitol Hill area in May 2021, the Denver District Attorney's Office (DA) said.
The jury deliberated for approximately six hours before finding Donald Gonzales, 23, guilty of killing Gary Vincent McLaughlin.
Prosecutors said police responded to the shooting about 3 a.m. May 28, 2021, and found McLaughlin lying in the street at East 11th Avenue and North Sherman Street, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital, according to the DA's Office.
On Monday, Gonzales was found guilty of second-degree murder. Sentencing is scheduled for May 18, 2023.
