CENTENNIAL – The man accused of poisoning and dismembering his mother after she removed him from her will was found guilty of first-degree murder Monday afternoon.

Ari Liggett, 25, was charged with murder in the death of 56-year-old Beverly Liggett. Police say they found him in October 2012 driving around his mother's remains in the back of an SUV.

Liggett is set to be sentenced on Friday.

He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. A state mental hospital found him competent to stand trial.

Police reports say Liggett told officers he found his mother dead on the floor of their home and that she'd committed suicide by taking potassium cyanide.

He said he was trying to put her body in a storage shed when he was arrested.
