LOVELAND, Colo. — The Loveland Police Department and the Larimer County Sheriff's Office announced Monday that a now-former Loveland Police officer was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.
Loveland Police Chief Timothy Doran said Dylan Miller was arrested after a 15-year-old girl came forward last month, alleging that he sexually assaulted her in July.
The girl told investigators she had initially been contacted by Miller during a traffic stop earlier in the year, police said. The victim said she next saw Miller in July when she and a friend were at North Lake Park after hours. Miller, who was on duty at the time, contacted the girl and her friend, telling her friend to leave, police said.
The victim's friend left after Miller told him to, and she told investigators that Miller took her to a secluded area at the park and sexually assaulted her, Larimer County Sheriff John Feyen said.
"The respect that I have at this moment for this young woman and her family to come forward and make this known to us is beyond measure," Feyen said.
When the girl came forward, Loveland Police turned the investigation over to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. Once their investigation concluded, the sheriff's office recommended that the 8th Judicial District Attorney's Office bring charges against Miller.
Miller, 28, was arrested Monday on suspicion of:
- First-degree kidnapping
- Sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust
- Official oppression
- First-degree official misconduct
Miller is being held in the Larimer County Detention Center under no bond.
Miller had been a patrol officer with Loveland Police since 2022. He previously worked as an officer with Durango Police from 2020 until early 2022.
Durango Police Chief Bob Brammer told 9NEWS that his department reviewed files and records about Miller's time with the agency and couldn't find any similar allegations.
"We did put out a news release, and if new information comes our way, we will certainly investigate it to the end," Brammer said via text message.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office and Loveland Police said they believe there may be other victims, and they asked those people to come forward.
