LONGMONT, Colo. — A man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting earlier this week in Longmont was arrested in New Mexico, according to an update from the Longmont Police Department (LPD).
Richard Martinez, 33, was taken into custody with assistance from the Espanola Police Department and New Mexico State Police, according to an update from LPD. Espanola, a town in New Mexico, is located roughly 370 driving miles south of Longmont.
Early Wednesday morning, police were notified of a possible shooting that took place in the 1200 block of Hunter Court at about 4:15 a.m. At least one suspect and the victims fled the scene in separate cars after the shooting, police said.
At about 5:45 a.m. police found one victim, a 34-year-old man, dead inside a stolen car, Deputy Chief Jeff Satur said. The car was abandoned in front of a house on Valentine Lane.

Police say the driver of the stolen car that the victim was found in fled. Police said they know who was driving that car. The home where the car was located is not connected to the shooting investigation.
Martinez was observed by a surveillance team at a home of a relative in New Mexico and when he was seen leaving the home, officers and state police attempted to make contact with him, LPD said.
Martinez fled the area at high speeds, according to LPD, and New Mexico State Police conducted used some type of pit maneuver to end the chase. Martinez ran from his vehicle after crashing but was taken into custody a short time later, according to LPD.
Police originally said they were looking for two suspects possibly in a white older model Mazda or Ford ranger style pickup 4x4 with an extended cab. Satur said they have located that vehicle and not looking for any other suspects in connection with the shooting which they said was not random.
