Littleton bus aide seen on video abusing at-risk child faces additional felony charges

Kiarra Jones is now facing a total of 13 criminal charges as investigators continue to review footage from a school bus that took at-risk children to school.

LITTLETON, Colo. — Prosecutors have added two more charges to the criminal case of Kiarra Jones, who is out on bond for assault and child abuse.

Jones was arrested in April after parents raised concerns to Littleton Public Schools about their children coming home from school with unexplained injuries and bruises. The children were nonverbal and could not communicate to their parents about what was happening on the bus.

9NEWS learned prosecutors added two more felony changes of assault of an at-risk person and child abuse to Jones’s case in late September. The counts relate to an 11-year-old boy named Hunter who came home with a broken toe.

Brittany Yarbrough, Hunter’s mother, told 9NEWS on Thursday her family feels validated with the additional counts, and said her son has been severely impacted since he came home with a broken toe.

“We see trauma spirals. We see PTSD. I remember when I went to my son quickly with my hands out, he flinched and he went back. He cowers down when his siblings are roughhousing, and these are things that didn't exist before the bus,” Yarbrough said.

On Thursday, Jones’s defense attorneys attempted to get a change of venue in the case and asked the judge to move the proceedings to Denver. A judge denied the request.

Jones is currently out on bond pending her case, and her next court appearance is scheduled for December.
