WINDSOR, Colo. — An Asian couple in Windsor says a group of thieves stole $200,000 worth of stuff from their home on Thursday. Fort Collins Police say they are investigating three other burglaries at homes of Asian families within the last month.
Detectives in Fort Collins have reached out to the Windsor Police Department to investigate if there are any connections.
Kae Dumrongpalasit and her husband Ram said before 7 p.m. Thursday, a group broke into their house and stole cash, handbags and watches.
The couple said their doorbell recorded video of a woman knocking on their door.
"At the end she said 'I am quite sure there is nobody home. You guys can come in,'" Dumrongpalasit said.
She said this person gave the all-clear, and minutes later a group broke into her house through the basement.
"They went through the basement, got into the window, got out, then they sneak into our storage," she said.
The couple has cameras inside too, but no video of the thieves. Dumrongpalasit said that's because the suspects disconnected the Wi-Fi.
"I checked the video right away and I found it says 'disconnected,' so that was the time I knew it is not just the camera but the Wi-Fi system itself they disconnected," she said.
The video was evidence they were hoping for after seeing what was gone.
"We work so hard for it and it is all gone. And the value of the stuff, it is a lot," she said. "And then seeing [my husband] getting super depressed -- I have to be strong, so I try to be strong the whole situation, but it hurts a lot."
The Dumrongpalasit family said the burglary happened when most people are usually home from work, but the couple is at their restaurant at that time. It makes them wonder if the suspects knew their routine and schedule.
