The shooting happened early Friday as deputies were trying to stop a suspect vehicle driving the wrong way, the sheriff's office said.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting involving Fort Collins Police officers early Friday morning.

About 11 p.m. Thursday, Fort Collins Police Services got information about a vehicle in the area wanted for a possible kidnapping out of Weld County, according to the sheriff's office.

About 12:50 a.m. Friday, Larimer County Sheriff's deputies found a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle near West Elizabeth Street and South Shields Street, the sheriff's office said in a release. The deputies pursued the suspect vehicle, which eluded deputies for several miles through west Fort Collins, according to the sheriff's office.

After 1 a.m., a deputy used ties spikes at the intersection of Horsetooth Road and College Avenue, the sheriff's office said. The driver who was traveling east in the westbound lanes, drove at the deputy, according to the sheriff's office. The deputy fired his weapon and the suspect drove away along Horsetooth Road, the release said.

The suspect vehicle stopped near Horsetooth Road and Shields Street and a man and a woman got out of the vehicle, the sheriff's office said. The man ran away but was taken into custody shortly after, the release said. The woman stayed on scene and was taken to the hospital for her injuries, the sheriff's office said. She has since been released from the hospital.

The driver of the suspect vehicle drove away from the scene, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies again deployed tire spikes near Shields Street and Davidson Drive, the release said. The vehicle swerved to avoid the spikes and crashed, the sheriff's office said. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

No law enforcement personnel or bystanders were injured during the shooting or crash, the sheriff's office said.
