LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — A 26-year-old suspect was arrested after officers said they caused extensive property damage, eluded police, and rammed into a patrol vehicle with a stolen truck.
In a press release from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), officers said on Thursday at 11:15 p.m. an officer encountered a Dodge 2500 pickup truck with multiple violations in Fort Collins. When the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped away and refused to stop, LCSO said.
Officers said the driver lost control and crashed into a transformer, which caused power outages to 4,000 homes in the area.
The crash did not stop the driver from driving off. Officers said the suspect continued to drive through a fence at Conifer Street and Lemay Avenue. The suspect then hit a pine tree and drove north on Lemay Avenue until they were stopped by a deputy who had conducted a PIT maneuver.
In the attempt to stop the truck, another officer on scene tried to box the truck in so the suspect would not drive away. The suspect then rammed the truck into the LCSO cruiser.
Officers said the suspect continued to accelerate into the police cruiser, but eventually gave up and surrendered to police. Police arrested 26-year-old Kennedy Queen-Dominguez on multiple charges including:
- First-degree assault on a peace officer
- Vehicle eluding
- Driving under the influence of drugs
- Criminal mischief
- First-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft
LCSO said no one was injured in this incident.
“Unfortunately, the willingness of suspects to place our community at risk has become a common occurrence, and we continue to see these types of irresponsible and often violent actions towards law enforcement,” said Captain Ian Stewart, who leads the Patrol division. “We are very fortunate this suspect’s actions did not harm any citizens, despite causing significant damage to property and placing our deputies in danger.
