WINDSOR, Colo. — No injuries were reported after a suspect exchanged gunfire with police near a hotel in Larimer County Sunday afternoon, the Windsor Police Department said.
Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies responded to the scene in the area of the AmericInn on Westgate Drive, near the Interstate 25 and CO 392 interchange. Windsor police said around 4:20 p.m., they were called to investigate a report of a disturbance at the hotel. Police said witnesses reported the suspect was armed with a weapon. Firefighters responded to the hotel for a report of a fire alarm around the same time, police said.
"Officers on scene attempted contact with the suspect," police said in a news release. "Officers then exchanged gunfire with the suspect."
Around 4:45 p.m., Weld County sent out an emergency alert to addresses near the interchange. The alert advised people to "shelter in place and avoid the area."
Police said Sunday evening that "the suspect was safely taken into custody," and no injuries were reported. They said there is no threat to the public.
The Loveland Police Department and the Eighth Judicial Critical Incident Response Team are investigating the shooting, police said.
