Lakewood police shoot, injure suspect who they say was threatening people with a knife

No police officers were injured in the shooting.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Sheridan Boulevard was closed in both directions for several hours between 3rd and 4th avenues in Lakewood Monday evening due to an officer-involved shooting.

No officers were injured, according to John Romero with Lakewood police.

The suspect is also still alive, Romero said.

Officers were originally called to the 4th Avenue and North Harlan Street around 3:30 p.m. Monday because there was a report of someone threatening cars and people with a large knife, according to Romero.

He said the person who called was concerned because there is a school bus stop in the area.

While officers were on their way, Romero said they received a second report of the same suspect threatening people near 3rd Avenue and Depew Street.

When police arrived at that intersection, Romero said the suspect ran to 3rd Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.

Romero said officers asked the suspect to drop the knife several times, but he did not.

Officers then shot him with a taser, according to Romero, but it did not work.

The suspect then "made an aggressive move" at the officers, according to Romera, and that is when they shot him.

Romero said the suspect was hit but survived. He was taken to the hospital.

The suspect has not been identified.
