DENVER — Six days later, Nathan Tipton still can't quite believe it happened.
"It's definitely one of those situations that feels surreal," Tipton said.
It was around 10:15 Wednesday night, and Tipton was driving southbound on Highway 93, near the Jefferson County/Boulder County border.
"As I was coming up on the concrete plant coming uphill, I saw two vehicles going northbound, but all I could see was their headlights. It was a dark road, and then a large shatter, sounded like a shotgun blast, scared the heck out of me," Tipton said.
Tipton said he pulled over right away and saw that both driver-side windows of his minivan had been shattered.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Tipton's minivan was one of seven vehicles damaged that night by somebody throwing rocks in and around Jefferson County.
Tragically, one of the rocks killed 20-year-old Alexa Bartell, who was driving home on Indiana Street in Jefferson County when a rock crashed through her windshield.
So far, nobody has been arrested for any of the incidents. Tipton is hoping that soon changes.
"They need to have accountability for what they've done to this family and everybody involved," Tipton said. "It's horrible. Nobody should lose a child for a random act of whatever this is. It's heartbreaking."
The sheriff's office said they believe all the rock-throwing incidents that night were connected.
Anyone with information about the person or people responsible is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
