DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) is warning the public about an increase in a jury duty scam where a person is told they have failed to report for jury duty and will be arrested unless they pay a fine.
The scammers will fraudulently use the names of actual sheriff's office command staff and deputies.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said it has taken several reports from older residents who have fallen victim to the scam, some losing thousands of dollars.

The sheriff's office said it will never ask you to pay a fine for missing jury service with gift cards, wire transfers, bitcoin, Green Dot cards, MoneyPak cards, Zelle or Venmo transfers, or ATM deposits.
Other government agencies and legitimate organizations such as the IRS, Social Security, Xcel Energy, Apple, Best Buy and anti-virus companies will never request those forms of payment, either.
The sheriff's office said to call them at 303-660-7500 if anyone asks you to send money to someone you don't know personally.
