Former Colorado school campus security officer arrested

Rubel "Tim" Martinez is facing a charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A former school campus security officer in Jeffco Public Schools has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a student.

Lakewood Police said a former Lakewood High School student came to them on Aug. 13 to report that Rubel "Tim" Martinez, 66, had assaulted her in her junior and senior years of high school between 2014 and 2016. The sexual encounters occurred on and off school grounds, police said.

On Friday, Aug. 16, police said they had developed enough probable cause to arrest Martinez.

On Tuesday, the 1st Judicial District Attorney's Office filed one count against Martinez of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust with a pattern of abuse. That charge is a third-degree felony.

Martinez worked as a campus security officer at Jefferson Jr./Sr. High School and Lakewood High School from 2006 to 2022, Lakewood Police said. He also ran an after-school clown club at Lakewood High, police said said.

Martinez is also a pastor at a church in Dacono, police said.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Martinez is still being held in the Jefferson County jail under a $20,000 cash-only bond. His next court date is scheduled for Friday.
