Jefferson County Jail inmate dies in sheriff's office custody

Ashley Jo Raisbeck, 27, was on a detox protocol at the jail when she died on Saturday.

GOLDEN, Colo — An investigation is underway after the in-custody death of an inmate at the Jefferson County Jail on Saturday.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said medical staff in the jail were conducting routine rounds on inmates who were the detox program when the inmate, 27-year-old Ashley Jo Raisbeck, appeared disoriented.

The sheriff's office said she was immediately taken to the medical unit, where she later collapsed but was breathing.

Medical staff administered three rounds of Narcan, according to the sheriff's office, but she stopped breathing so they began CPR. Paramedics took over CPR and took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

The sheriff's office said Raisbeck was booked into the jail on Dec.13 after being arrested by Wheat Ridge Police on a warrant out of Lakeside for false reporting. She pleaded guilty the next day and was serving a 28-day sentence.

The First Judicial District Law Enforcement Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is investigating the death. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office will determine how she died.
