The Colorado Division of Wildlife is seeking help from the public to identify the person who shot a hawk at an archery range.
Deputies from the Freemont County Sheriff's office were flagged down by citizens on Wednesday afternoon near the Canon City Park and Rec Archery Range. The responding deputies immediately called for the Division of Wildlife to respond after seeing a hawk with an arrow stuck in it.
DOW employees responded and found a Red Tail Hawk in the bushes with an arrow stuck in it. Investigators determined it was shot by someone at the Canon City Archery Range.
The injured hawk was taken to a vet where it was determined that the arrow had only penetrated the hawk's left wing. Once removed, it was discovered that the wing was broken.
The hawk was taken to the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo where it is expected to make a full recovery.
