DENVER — A homicide investigation is underway after a body was recovered along the Cherry Creek Trail in downtown Denver late Tuesday afternoon.

Denver firefighters responded to an area of the creek near Speer Boulevard and Washington Street around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Denver Police initially said they were conducting an outside death investigation but on Wednesday said the death had been ruled a homicide.

In an update Thursday, a department spokesperson said the victim was a man and that it appeared he had been stabbed. He has been identified as 42-year-old Ethan Martinez. The Denver Medical Examiner will determine his official cause of death.
