19 vehicles broken into in one night in Highlands Ranch, sheriff's office says

Nearly $7,000 in items were stolen from the vehicles, including a gun, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said on Tuesday that it's investigating after about 19 vehicles were broken into in one night last week in Highlands Ranch.

About 4 a.m. Nov. 19, a man and a woman using a stolen Ford pickup broke into the vehicles on Strathfield Lane, Walden Court, Laguna Circle, Goldsmith Drive and Weeping Willow Court. Twelve reports were filed with the sheriff's office, with some people reporting two vehicles being broken into. All but one of the vehicles that were broken into were unlocked at the time, the sheriff's office said.

The preliminary amount of items stolen from vehicles was $6,755.00. Also, one firearm was stolen, according to the sheriff's office.

One victim reported their Apple AirPods were stolen and tracked them to an apartment complex in Arapahoe County. Douglas County deputies worked with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office and found a white Ford truck that matched the truck used in the break-ins, as seen on security footage.

The truck had fictitious plates; however, upon clearing the VIN, investigators learned it was reported stolen out of Aurora. Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies recovered the truck and processed it for additional leads.

Detectives are following several leads, but the case is still open and active, the sheriff's office said.
