Death in Highlands Ranch under investigation, suspect arrested

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said one person was taken into custody after deputies found the victim in the 800 block of Elmhurst.

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Douglas County Sheriff's Office said a suspect was in custody after a death Sunday morning in Highlands Ranch.

The sheriff's office said deputies responded around 10:24 a.m. to the 800 block of Elmhurst Avenue for a report of shots fired that was possibly related to a family disturbance.

Deputies found a dead person when they arrived and took a suspect into custody. The sheriff's office was not able to immediately confirm if the victim had been shot. 

On Monday, the sheriff's office identified the suspect as Sean Gipson, 33.

The victim's identity and cause of death will be released after an autopsy is completed and next of kin are notified.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or visit metrodenvercrimestoppers.com. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000. 

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers works by assigning a code to people who anonymously submit a tip. Information is shared with law enforcement, and Crime Stoppers is notified at the conclusion of the investigation. 

From there, an awards committee reviews the information provided and, if the information leads to an arrest, the tipster will be notified. Rewards can be collected using the code numbers received when the tip was originally submitted.
