DENVER — A Denver jury convicted a man of first-degree murder in connection with the 2021 death of his wife whose body was found in rural Adams County two days after she was reported missing.
Jonathan Nuno-Mijangos reported his wife Jasmin Cigarroa missing on March 10 of that year and claimed he had not heard from her since the before.
Her body was found during a search on March 12 in the area of East 26th Avenue and Powhaton Road. Officers searched the area based on data from Nuno-Mijangos' cell phone, according to an arrest affidavit from Denver Police, and the body was found in an area consistent with those cell phone towers.
Nuno-Mijangos's trial began on Aug. 20 in Denver District Court. Late Tuesday, the jury returned guilty verdicts on all counts. That included:
- First-degree murder after deliberation
- First-degree assault - strangulation
- Tampering with a deceased human body
- Abuse of a corpse
Nuno-Mijangos faces a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole for the first-degree murder conviction. He's set to be formally sentenced on Aug. 30.
