GREELEY, Colo. — Police have arrested a suspect in two recent shooting incidents in Greeley.
The Greeley Police Department said officers responded to an alarm at the Wells Fargo bank at 35th Avenue and 22nd Street on Wednesday afternoon and after completing their investigation, they heard six to 10 gunshots near them.
Police said they immediately began searching for the suspects and any potential witnesses. Two nearby schools, Greeley West High School and Meeker Elementary School, were briefly placed on secure perimeter status.
Officers saw some juveniles running away from where the shots were fired from, according to police. Three of them were contacted and interviewed before being released to their parents. The fourth was not found.
Officers also contacted five adults in two separate cars who reported being shot at while in a parking lot in the 3200 block of 22nd Street. Police said the victims provided a description of the shooter to officers that matched the description given by several witnesses.
Police said officers recovered multiple spent shell casings in the area where the juvenile suspect had last been seen running away.
While canvasing the area near the shooting, according to police, officers found a home nearby that was also hit by errant shots. There were people inside the home at the time, police said, but none of them were hurt. One of the residents was in the kitchen when a bullet entered their home and it fell to the floor at their feet. A second resident was sitting in the living room when a different round struck a large picture window, police said, nearly hitting them.
Police said officers arrested the suspect on Friday and recovered multiple firearms and evidence of the shooting at the suspect's home.
Detectives linked the suspect to several other unsolved crimes in Greeley, police said, including a drive-by shooting on Oct. 29 that targeted an occupied home in the 1700 block of 29th Avenue. The suspect was booked at the Platte Valley Youth Detention Facility for attempted second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Greeley Police detectives are investigating both shootings and other possibly related criminal cases, police said. Anyone living in the immediate area of either shooting scene and has home surveillance cameras, doorbell cameras or any other additional information related to either case is asked to call Detective Mike Shea at 970-351-5000.
