GREELEY, Colo. — Susan Lucero, 43, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault with a deadly weapon in July after, police said, she stabbed her then-10-year-old son and then herself in 2022.

Police said the stabbing happened the morning of Dec. 15, 2022 at a home in the 200-block of 9th Avenue.

According to the Greeley Police Department, officers were initially told that a suspect fled the scene. Upon arrival, officers found Lucero and her son injured with multiple stab wounds.

After their investigation, detectives found that there was no outstanding suspect and it appeared Lucero stabbed her son and then herself.

Lucero was originally charged with:

  • Attempted first-degree murder
  • First-degree assault
  • Child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury
  • Felony menacing

Lucero pleaded guilty July 18 to one count of first-degree assault. The other charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement, according to court records.

She is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. on Aug. 28.
