EDWARDS, Colo. — A man was fatally shot during a confrontation with Eagle County deputies after they responded to a domestic violence incident in Edwards on Tuesday, the sheriff's office said in a release.
Around 9 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff's office said, deputies responded to a home in the 200 block of Beard Creek Road for a reported disturbance between an armed man and a woman.
At some point, according to the release, the man came outside with a gun, and shots were fired. Deputies did not say who fired the shots or how many shots were fired.
The man was struck and died from his injuries. The Eagle County Coroner identified the man as 57-year-old Joseph Leoni.
Deputies didn't say whether the man pointed the weapon at deputies or fired at them.
The sheriff's office didn't say how many deputies fired their weapons, but said those involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
Agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to contact CBI at 970-248-7500.
