CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — A teacher at Douglas County High School has been arrested and is accused of sexually assaulting a child.
James Thomure, 55, was arrested by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. He facing a possible charge of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.
Thomure is a social studies teacher who has taught in the Douglas County School District since 1999, according to a letter from Douglas County High School Principal Tony Kappas.
The district has placed Thomure on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
"I know it is concerning to receive news of this nature," Kappas said in the letter. "Please know the safety and well-being of every student is of primary importance to Douglas County High School and the Douglas County School District."
The sheriff's office did not release any other information about the assault.
Thomure is currently being held at the Douglas County Detention Facility on a $20,000 bond.
