Animal Services officers offered these safety tips if you’re going to take your dog to a dog park:

  • Pay attention to posted signage and respect the rules.
  • Watch a dog’s body language and look for warning signs, like a stiff body or hackles raised. If something doesn’t feel right, leave.
  • If you can’t leave before an attack occurs, keep calm. Separate the dogs if at all possible, move to a safe space, and exchange information with the other dog owner.
  • Always verify the other dog owner’s information before you leave.
  • Take photos or video for evidence.
  • Get a license plate number, then call 911
