Police looking for driver in connection with shots fired near Denver school

No injuries were reported in the incident, which happened around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday at 28th Avenue and Columbine Street.

DENVER — Police are looking for the person who fired shots near a Denver school last week.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which happened around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday at 28th Avenue and Columbine Street. That's outside PREP Academy and just north of City Park Golf Course.

Police said Monday that they are looking for the driver of a silver Kia Sportage in connection with the shots fired. The car has silver slotted wheels and black trim. The driver left the scene headed west, police said.

Police have not identified the driver. That person is suspected of unlawful discharge of a firearm. 

Police provided a photo of the actual vehicle, as well as a stock photo of a car of the same make and model.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or visit metrodenvercrimestoppers.com. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000. 

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers works by assigning a code to people who anonymously submit a tip. Information is shared with law enforcement, and Crime Stoppers is notified at the conclusion of the investigation. 

From there, an awards committee reviews the information provided and, if the information leads to an arrest, the tipster will be notified. Rewards can be collected using the code numbers received when the tip was originally submitted.
