DENVER — A man was found guilty Oct. 5 in connection with multiple sexual assaults in Denver in 2021.

Abiye Adamu, 33, was taken into custody on Nov. 30, 2021, on charges related to a crime at 16th Avenue and Logan Street on Nov. 28, police said at the time. They also said he was believed to be involved in additional sexual assaults that month.

On Thursday, the District Attorney's Office said, a jury found Adamu guilty of:

  • Six counts of sexual assault
  • Three counts of kidnapping
  • One count of assault
  • One count of felony menacing
  • One count of soliciting another for the purpose of prostitution

On the night of Nov. 28, 2021, a Denver Police officer responded to North Pennsylvania Street for a report about a possible sexual assault, an arrest affidavit said.

The victim told police she was walking home when a sedan pulled up alongside her and eventually a man got out, grabbed her and told her to get into the car, the document said.

After forcing her into the car, the victim said, the man produced a knife and held it against her "multiple times," the affidavit said. She said the suspect drove for about 10 to 15 minutes before pulling into a parking lot, where he sexually assaulted her.

Prosecutors said Adamu was sentenced Jan. 5 to 80 years to life in prison.
