Denver police are warning the public about a scam where a man tried to trick a woman into buying him gift cards, then sent her an unwelcome photo when she refused.
According to a post on the police department's Facebook page, the victim told police she received a phone call from a man who identified himself as a detective with the Denver Sheriff's Department. He told her she missed her jury summons and now had a warrant out for her arrest. He then told her to go to a grocery store to buy gift cards to pay for the bond and avoid being arrested.
She knew it was a scam and hung up on him but he kept texting her, and even sent her a photo of male genitalia.
Police say you can't buy your way out of a warrant, they won't call you to tell you you're wanted, and they would never send you a photo of male genitalia. Anyone who finds themselves the target of such a scam is asked to report it by calling (720) 913-2000.
