DENVER — Officers shot and killed a man at a convenience store in Denver Friday night.
The Denver Police Department said they were called to a 7-Eleven at West 5th Avenue and Federal Boulevard at around 6:50 p.m. on a report of a stabbing and potential robbery.
Officers went inside and found that there appeared to be a struggle behind the closed door to a back room, according to police.
DPD said officers forced the door open and found three men inside. One man was holding another man and threatening him with a "sharp instrument," according to police. It's not clear what the instrument was.
Police said officers fired shots at the man with the instrument, who later died at the hospital. No officers were hurt.
The two people who were in the room with the man who was killed were not injured, according to police.
DPD, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Colorado State Patrol will be investigating the shooting and will turn over their findings to the district attorney's office.
The Denver Medical Examiner's Office identified the man killed as 43-year-old Christopher Cauch.
