Denver police officer arrested for alleged insurance fraud

Zurisadai Beltran Rodriguez is accused of filing a false report claiming her car was stolen. The police department said the fraud occurred before she became a cop.

DENVER — The Denver Police Department announced on Wednesday the arrested one of their own officers for insurance fraud.

Insurance fraud investigators uncovered Zurisadai Beltran Rodriguez, 24, had a scheme to falsely report a stolen car and then file an insurance claim, according to court records.

A redacted arrest affidavit provided to 9NEWS Investigates describes how two people who were known to Beltran Rodriguez used her car after dropping her off at a bar. The two people subsequently got into a crash and then fled the scene in April of 2022.

Instead of reporting the two people for the hit-and-run crash, Beltran Rodriguez called police dispatch and reported her car was stolen, according to the affidavit. Eventually a $30,074.71 insurance claim was processed.

The Denver Police Department hired Beltran in May of 2023, about a year after the crash. However, an ex-boyfriend of hers reported the fraud to insurance investigators.

According to the arrest affidavit, fraud investigators used cell phone tower information to show Beltran was leaving the bar in downtown Denver when she called dispatch to report her car as stolen.

She told dispatch she was near her home, seven miles away, when she discovered her car stolen, according to court records. Investigators also noted several other discrepancies in her claims.

Beltran was booked into Denver’s jail on Wednesday and has bonded out.
