AURORA, Colo. — The Aurora Police Department said on Monday that they made an arrest in a fatal shooting Friday near East Colfax Avenue and Helena Street.

Davonte Bletson, 20, of Denver, was arrested Sunday afternoon. Bletson was arrested in Denver on suspicion of second-degree murder and was being held on a $500,000 bond in the Arapahoe County jail.

Aurora Police said officers responded to a report of a shooting around 8:45 p.m. Friday at a business near the intersection of Colfax and Helena.

Police said two men had gone to a liquor store and were involved in an argument with two other men and a woman in the parking lot. The argument escalated to a physical fight and then shots were fired, according to police.

The victim, a 38-year-old Aurora man, was a native of Venezuela. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital, where he died, police said.

The victim is not a resident of nearby Whispering Pines apartments or of the other Aurora properties that have received attention recently. His identity and official cause of death will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

Bletson's next court date is Sept. 26.
