One person was rescued from a basement and transported to the hospital early Wednesday morning.

DENVER — Fire crews are investigating what caused a basement and garage fire that injured one person late Tuesday night.

Just before 11 p.m., the Denver Fire Department responded to a basement fire and a garage fire in the 300 block of South Downing Street. That's near East Alameda Avenue and South Downing Street.

Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish both fires, DFD said in a tweet. One person was rescued from the basement and was transported to the hospital, according to DFD.

Several cats were rescued from the home, according to DFD.
