Suspect arrested after decorations damaged at Fort Morgan cemetery

Officers found seven different burial sites had been desecrated, police said.

FORT MORGAN, Colo — Police have arrested a suspect who they say damaged seven different burial sites at Fort Morgan Cemetery in northeastern Colorado on Memorial Day. 

Fort Morgan Police said just before 5:30 p.m. Monday, they were called to investigate a report of vandalism at the cemetery on West Eighth Avenue. When officers arrived, they located a woman who they believe moved items from a headstone. 

Officers found seven different burial sites had been desecrated, police said. They said about 10 stone flowerpots and decorations were damaged. 

The suspect was arrested Monday evening. Police said she is being held on charges of criminal mischief and multiple counts of desecration of a venerated object.
