CU Boulder issued an emergency alert just before 7:20 p.m. Thursday warning of a heavy police presence at Folsom Field.

BOULDER, Colo. — Police have arrested a 48-year-old man from Massachusetts accused of fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crash and driving his truck onto Folsom Field on the CU campus Thursday.

Around 6:45 p.m., Boulder Police said they responded to a call about "several hit-and-run crashes involving the same pickup truck near Foothills Parkway and Arapahoe Avenue."

Police said witnesses reported that a man driving a blue pickup truck was involved in at least two hit-and-run crashes and also hit a couple of trees and a sign before driving away from the area.

Witnesses told police that many people tried to stop the driver from leaving the crash scene and one person was almost struck by the truck.

Officers attempted to stop the driver, but he continued to drive away from them, said police. Then the driver was spotted near Colorado Avenue and 28th Street when CU Boulder Police tried to stop him on Stadium Drive.

Campus police said the driver rammed a gate to drive onto Folsom Field. The University of Colorado Boulder sent an emergency alert via social media just before 7:20 p.m. Thursday warning of a heavy police presence at Folsom Field and advising the public to avoid the area.
