Commerce City Police Department looks for suspects in home vandalisms

Police say the vandalism started in September in the Buffalo Run neighborhood with destroying lights, entering unlocked cars, starting a fire and leaving faucets on.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The Commerce City Police Department is looking for the people responsible in a string of vandalisms in the Buffalo Run neighborhood.

Police say the vandalism started in September, including destroying landscaping lighting, entering unlocked cars, setting fire on a garage and leaving faucets on while drains were clogged.

“There's about five or six events,” said Larry Martinez, a detective with the Commerce City Police Department.

The Commerce City Police Department believes the incidents are all related, including the most recent incident on the 16000 block of East 109th Place. Police say the vandals set fire to scrap wood in the garage, among other things.

“They had turned on water faucets, caused some damages to that unfinished home,” Martinez said.

The builder told Commerce City Police it's about $20,000 worth of damage.

“That's kind of life changing for some,” said Brandon Vue, who lives nearby. “Now that I am thinking about it, that could have been our house.”

Vue said he still feels safe in the neighborhood he moved into a year and a half ago.

“I hope they find them, and it's unfortunate to hear in the neighborhood,” Vue said.

A neighbor’s doorbell camera has helped detectives’ investigation. Commerce City police are looking for two people around high school age.

“One has a, what appears to be a bat, something similar to a bat. He is just swinging it around. One has a backpack on,” Martinez said.
