Carjacking suspect taken into custody after leading law enforcement on a pursuit Sunday morning

The armed man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon near Ward, a Colorado State Patrol spokesperson said.

LONGMONT, Colo. — After hours on the run, an armed suspect who had stolen multiple cars and led law enforcement on a miles-long pursuit was arrested in Boulder County, the Colorado State Patrol said.

CSP said they were notified of a stolen car pursuit at about 8:30 a.m. in the area of Interstate 25 and Highway 119 in Weld County.

During a stop, CSP said, a man named Anthony McGregor got out of the car and at some point stole an unmarked CSP cruiser.

The suspect drove toward Longmont, and turned on Main Street. As he made his way through Longmont, Haley Deese said, McGregor almost hit her car as he tried to get away.

"This individual made Longmont their victim and caused the most havoc within Longmont," Deese said. "All of a sudden they flipped on their lights and went on their way, and we were like, oh my gosh."

CSP units stopped the suspect in the intersection of Main Street and Highway 66.

"He got out of the car with the handgun pointed to his head. Intense moment when I realized that. It's when I had my daughter not look at anything and get down," said Ryan Higgins, who was passing through with his 9-year-old daughter.

Higgins said McGregor ran away towards the Murphy's Express gas station. CSP said he carjacked a Chevy Cruze. He wasn't in that car for long before he stole a fourth car.

"I was mindblown," Higgins said. "How many men and women were chasing him down and everything. I was perplexed that he got away."

McGregor took off near Ward where officers arrested him about six hours after the chase began. He was taken into custody at around 2:15 p.m. Sunday, according to CSP.
