COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man was killed in a shooting involving Colorado Springs Police officers overnight.
Police said officers got a report around 10:36 p.m. of a suicidal man armed with a gun in the 4200 block of Deerfield Hills Road.
Before officers arrived, a gunshot fired inside the home was reported.
The home was cleared of all other occupants safely. Police did not say how many people were inside.
When officers arrived at the scene, they attempted to perform a welfare check on the suspect, who fired additional gunshots from the home into the surrounding neighborhood, police said.
Tactical support was then requested, but before it arrived the suspect walked out of the front door with a gun.
Officers told the suspect to drop the gun, who refused, and then at least one officer fired at least one gunshot that hit the suspect, according to police.
The suspect was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.
El Paso County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting.
