FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. — A Howard, Colorado, man has pleaded guilty to a felony charge after the remains of three bears were found dumped on state trust land in September, according to court documents.
Paul Stromberg, 53, pleaded guilty Jan. 8 to one count of felony illegal destruction of wildlife and one count of misdemeanor failure to dress wildlife, according to court documents. He's set to be sentenced March 25.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife said officers began investigating after social media and anonymous tips circulated about a possible poaching case. On Sept. 29, investigators found the bodies of three bears – a sow and two cubs – on state trust land southeast of Salida.
Stromberg was taken into custody the next day, after wildlife officers determined the bears had been shot and killed at his property, CPW said.
