2 accused of distributing fentanyl in Boulder County

Carlos Centeno-Izaguirre is accused of "having sold the drugs that caused a drug-related death."

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — Two people have been arrested on suspicion of dealing fentanyl and other illegal drugs in Boulder County, the 20th Judicial District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.

Prosecutors said Carlos Centeno-Izaguirre, 43, and Gerson Arteaga-Izaguirre, 20, are each facing charges including unlawful distribution of fentanyl and distribution within 1,000 feet of a school.

According to an arrest affidavit, the suspects on two occasions made a drug transaction with a confidential informant in the area of a Safeway on 28th Street in Boulder. Those transactions happened within 1,000 feet of a preschool, the affidavit says.

Centeno-Izaguirre is also charged with distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. Prosecutors said he is accused of "having sold the drugs that caused a drug-related death." An affidavit in the case didn't provide details on that death.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear in court Thursday, according to court documents.

A law that took effect in July 2022 allows Colorado prosecutors to charge suspects with distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. Seventeen people statewide faced that charge in the law's first year. The 20th Judicial District Attorney's Office said they "strongly supported" that law.
